Wrapping up

Happy Saturday night,

How is everyone doing? Did you enjoy your Saturday? Tomorrow’s Father’s Day, what are your plans? I hope whatever you have planned your day will be incredible.

Tomorrow John and his boys will be doing breakfast with John’s guy group, so that will be tons of fun for them. It’s nice that they can all go out and enjoy guy time. It’s a weekly event. Every Sunday the guys get together and head to their usual stop and enjoy a couple of hours eating and having guy talk. I’m glad John gets to do this and it’s nice when his boys want to go along too.

Tomorrow afternoon, early evening we’ll be letting John open his Father’s Day gifts. Then we’ll have a nice dinner followed by an Oreo ice cream cookie cake that I picked up from 31 flavors. It’s Tate’s favorite and since his birthday was Wednesday, we’ll have a combo birthday/Father’s Day cake. Yummy!

Today was a nice day. Busy, with lots of nice. We spent the afternoon and evening in San Diego celebrating Tate’s birthday and John’s niece Megan’s birthday. We also celebrated an early Father’s Day since it’s easier for us to sometimes head to San Diego on a Saturday verses a Sunday. John’s mom made a wonderful dinner of ribs, salad, baked potatoes and Amy, John’s sister brought some yummy baked beans. We enjoyed some ice tea and Megan’s homemade brownies. Yummy all the way around.

When we got home I was able to come upstairs to my loft and just relax. My neuropathy is acting up really bad today, so it’s nice to just be upstairs while enjoying the coolness of my fan and the AC. Of course I have the two pups that decided to join me. They are my cuddle bugs.

I wanted to share with everyone what I’ve been up to over the last couple of weeks. You see, about a year ago Grant brought home this outdoor statue. I refer to him as Captain Jack. Anyway, he was in pretty bad shape and Grant had sort of promised to freshen him up a bit. Well, I’m sure as many of you know, guys are guys and they don’t always know where to start with crafting or fixing up a statue. Kuddos to those guys who do craft and know their way around a painters paint brush, but Grant, while he knows how to paint and craft, it’s not totally his thing.

So with Captain Jack being here at home with us and nothing being done to get him looking more snazzy, I grabbed my paints and brushes and thought why not fix the captain up for John’s dad for Father’s Day. So I get all my paints ready. My brushes and I’m ready to begin. Well, I noticed the captain needed a good bath first. As I was getting him cleaned up the cracks all over his ship and body began really showing up. UGH! I had to pivot.

Off to Home Depot I went to get some spackle and bond-o like material to make sure he wouldn’t crumble. I made sure to cover every crack on the captain and his ship. Wouldn’t you know, it took over a week for the material to completely dry to where I could sand him down. Once sanded I cleaned the captain up again to avoid dust in my paint.

Last night I finally finished the re-paint of the captain and his ship. Now it was time to seal him with some good sealer that would help him be protected from the brutal sun rays. Wouldn’t you know it though, I bought the wrong kind, so off to Lowe’s to pick up the right sealer. By the time I got home it was 10pm. I was afraid to take the captain outside to seal him because I didn’t want any overspray from the sprinklers to get him, so I was up early this morning sealing Captain Jack and his ship. I also decided to glue on a couple of birds to complete my project.

Below are some photos of the before and after of Mr. Captain Jack. What do you think? I think he turned out pretty awesome if I do say so myself. Even though I was quite nervous about gifting him back to John’s dad, I was excited to see his reaction. I really wanted him to like the new Captain Jack. I changed him up quite a bit.

See what I mean:

I think Big John like him:

Big John was quite surprised. Pleasantly surprised and I’m beyond happy.

Another quick project I took on in between painting Captain Jack. This little patriotic pup is so cute, but I had to change her up. I needed, or should I say, I wanted her to look like my Oreo. Below is the before and after:

Below is my Oreo:

And on a final note, John changed up our lights to honor all dads. Below are those photos:

And on that note, I’ll be saying goodnight.

Sleep well everyone and until next time, don’t forget, Love Life++ Hugs
