Time for a redo

Happy Tuesday evening everyone,

How are you all doing? Survive Super Bowl Sunday? We did, barely that is. I’d love to hear all about your weekend and what you were able to do. Shoot me a text or drop me a comment, you know you always make my day when I hear from you.

Super Bowl Sunday started out to be a great day, however, by half-time, things weren’t going all that great. I was making chicken noodle soup and I always boil my noodles slightly before adding them to the soup. Wouldn’t you know my left hand decided to lose feeling as I was draining those dog-gone noodles and my left hand dropped the handle and yup, the boiling water landed right on my hand. Thank goodness I turned on the cold water and holy heck, did that hurt, but I honestly believe that saved my burn from being worse then it was.

I was able to get the cold water on my hand long enough to ease the pain, but I found that to be super short lived. Once the water was off, the pain was beyond intense. Thank goodness John was able to get some ice on it with a cold towel. The pain was still intense though every time I removed the ice or cold towel, so John called my future daughter-in-law whose now a nurse and she suggested the things to help with my hand.

Thank goodness for the cream she suggested. Aquaphor I believe has saved me from potentially scaring. John bought every cream Jagger suggested and the Aquaphor seems to be my favorite. I’ve also had to keep my hand wrapped, which is bothersome yet good at the same time. I lather my hand every morning with the Aquaphor, then wrap it. Seems to be working. Warm and especially hot water still cause me pain, but overall, my hand is so much better.

I didn’t sleep at all on Sunday which made it extremely hard to get up yesterday, but, I had no choice. Life must go on.

Below is a photo of my hand about 2 hours after the boiling water spilled on it.

Yesterday was a hard day with the lack of sleep from Sunday night, so I decided to hit the hay early. I was in bed by 9:30. John couldn’t sleep so he headed downstairs because he was hungry. He had some dental work done and by 9:30 the numbing stuff finally wore off to where he could eat. Wouldn’t you know it, no sooner did he get himself downstairs to eat something that our pup Oreo began squealing and literally crying. I turned on the light to see that she had found a bone. It was one of those round beef bones you get in the meat department area of the grocery store.

Oreo somehow got the bone to become stuck on her lower mouth/jaw area and behind her teeth. Below are some photos. We tried everything to get this bone off of her. We even gave her some Benadryl to calm her. To no avail the bone refused to come off her mouth and jaw. Thank goodness she was able to breath okay and she wasn’t chocking. We decided to keep her calm until morning when I could get her to the animal hospital.

Below is a photo of Oreo with the bone lodged around her jaw and bottom portion of her mouth:

I am now officially three nights in with little to no sleep. Saturday night I slept a total of 3 hours. My neuropathy decided to keep me up that night.

Oreo had surgery this morning around 8:30 am and she is now home sleeping comfortably. She did eat a little bit tonight and she was finally able to get some water down too.

The last three days have been exhausting, so I haven’t been able to keep up with my judgement series on my blog. I did want to take this time tonight to write to you all and let you know what’s going on and hopefully if I can get a little rest tonight, I’ll be back to writing tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

One thing I do want to share with everyone who may have pups is this, PLEASE DON’T BY THE ROUND BEEF BONES FOR YOUR PUPS. Apparently this is a common occurrence with pups. Vets see this more often then they like. The bones are BUTCHER’S BLOCK BONES, DOGGIE DELIGHTS. I don’t think Oreo would agree about them being doggie delights.

Below is a photo of the bone brand that got stuck in Oreo’s mouth:

Thank goodness she’s okay. She does have a couple of stitches in her mouth, but she is able to eat soft foods. The vet gave her a 24 hour pain killer shot and boy oh boy, that is working like a charm.

Below is a photo of the bone that got stuck:

Well guys, fingers crossed I can get a few hours of sleep tonight. I do have to be up by 5, so I’ll be heading to be fairly shortly after I walk the pups and do my dishes. I hate going to be with dishes in the sink. Thank goodness we did El Pollo Loco tonight, so there’s only a few dishes to be cleaned.

Below is a photo of Oreo sleeping soundly after her horrific ordeal with the bone that clung onto her mouth for dear life:

Thank you for stopping by to read tonight’s blog and I am excited to continue our topic of judgment. I have some amazing things to share with you all.

Until next time, please don’t forget, Love Life++ Hugs.

  1. Oh, my goodness, Dawn! Both of you at the same time! I know what you mean about your hand giving out. That happens to me with my grip or my wrist. And of course you were pouring boiling water! I saw in your later post that your boys were helping. You have a beautiful team in your home. Love, love, love you.

    1. What are the odds of Oreo and I needing help like this. Thank goodness we are both healing and on the mend and I’m thankful that John and Grant have been able to help me a little bit more these last couple of days. I will admit, I’m still exhausted. Maybe just mentally, but either way, I need some quiet time to craft and write.

Love to you my dear friend. Enjoy your day.

      Hugs

    1. I am so grateful for my future daughter in law. The cream has been amazing in my healing process, which is going super well. My hand is looking pretty good for getting burned just a few days ago

  2. It was and the sad thing is, it didn’t have to happen. I mean, the bones center is too small to get off their jaw, but not to small to get stuck. I’m just thankful it wasn’t any worse.

  3. Oh my goodness, Dawna, I’m so sorry I’m just now catching up on this. What an incredibly tough few days you’ve had. I’m so glad Oreo is okay now, and it’s a relief to hear your hand is healing too. I can’t imagine how exhausting all of this must have been, but your strength is amazing. I hope you’re able to get some much-needed rest soon. Sending you and Oreo lots of love and prayers for recovery.
