God’s Holy Spirit

Happy Friday the 13th,

How is everyone doing on this amazing Friday evening? It sure has been a beautiful day despite the haze from the smoke. It’s a cool 77 degrees here in my little bubble of the world. How’s the weather in your neck of the woods? Shoot me a text or drop me a comment, I’d love to hear from you and of course, catch up.

I’m sitting on my bed again writing today’s blog. I have my windows open and my fan blowing some nice cool air. As I sit here writing, I take a moment every so often to glance out my bedroom window to see the calmness of the lake.

Today I’m extra blessed to be able to hear little ones playing at the park. Schools have been closed all week due to the Airport Fire, and today the air quality isn’t all that bad, so there’s lots of little ones outside playing at the park by the lake.

Last night I went to sew with my friend Susan. I’m almost done with another quilt. I feel so inspired to finish all my projects. I was telling my friend last night that my goal is to finish the more simple quilts first, then at the first of the year, do one of the more complicated ones until all my quilts are made. I believe I’ll feel more accomplished if I can get the easier ones done rapidly before jumping into the more difficult ones.

Two more borders and then it’s ready for batting and backing. Can’t wait to get this done.

Last night while driving home from Susan’s I couldn’t help but thank God for all the blessings He continues to bestow upon me.

Susan and I always have a great time together and we can talk about almost anything. She has a very strong faith and last night we were talking about spirit and how we both feel it guides us and brings people into our lives at just the right time. I was sharing with her the things I was learning while listening to Wayne Dryers book, I Can See Clearly Now.

I had found myself doubting what he was saying about spirit guiding him, helping him to write. I was second guessing what he was saying about spirit giving him the words to write for his books, then Susan reminded me of some of her experiences with spirit guiding her. She reminded me of a Sunday ladies group that she led at church and taught. One of the ladies in that group told her, “I could feel the spirit pouring out of you.” Another woman said to her, “I could feel the Holy Spirit in our lesson today.”

As we continued talking I realized, I have nothing to doubt regarding how the Holy Spirit works and guides us. As I talked to Susan, and she shared experiences with me, I could feel the Holy Spirit telling me that I have nothing to doubt.

While I don’t understand what Wayne Dyer experienced, that’s okay, I get to have my own experiences because I am unique and I am me.

When I was driving home I had to thank God for bringing Susan into my life and for giving her the words to remind me of his spirit at work in my life.

People have come into my life at the right time. When I didn’t know how I’d pay my rent, God saw to it I had the money. No matter what circumstance I was or am faced with, His Holy Spirit is at work in my life.

My dear friend Linda over at nutsrok.com ( https://nutsrok.com/2024/09/13/run/ ) reminded me recently of something very important. When I said I wanted to be the next Wayne Dyer, she commented to me, “Why do you want to be the next Wayne Dyer when your already Dawna?” She’s so right. I believe God was guiding her to remind me that I don’t need to be the next Wayne Dyer. He was an amazing teacher and author, and so am I. I just need to be me. Thank you Linda for reminding me of this.

The more I listen to Wayne Dyers books, I realize his belief system, though I believe a lot the same as he does, there are some differences, therefore, I can’t be like him. I can’t teach the way he taught. What I can do is, take the things we have in common and implement that into the way I express my beliefs. I can learn from Wayne Dyer and the way he taught and I can ask God to guide me and cast his Holy Spirit upon me so that I can do His will. I can be guided and used in the way He wants me to live my life. It’s up to Him to give me direction and it’s up to me to follow it.

When I drove into he gates last night, I was greeted by the lights that are shining up upon the trees reminding me of how blessed I am again to be living in a place that I love. I am surrounded by community and we stand proud of where we live. We pay respect for remembering the tragic day that hit our country on 9-11. The lights are a reminder of that day, a day that changed the lives of everyone around the world.

When I look at these lights, I remember the horror that our nation faced and the division it caused, yet over time, I do believe we can all agree, it’s not a certain people as a whole, but individuals who decided to show hatred towards others.

“Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.”-Corrie Ten Boom.

I’ve been reminded of these very words over the last couple of days. Not only by talking with Susan but in my listening to Wayne Dyer.

I won’t say I’m a religious person, not anymore. I prefer to say I’m a spiritual person and I do believe at least for me, if I ask Him to guide me in the direction He wants me to go, He will. He knows the path that’s best for me and it’s through Holy Spirit that my steps will be guided.

“The Spirit of God living in you is enough for you not to be confused in life because His work is to guide you into all truth.”-Okiki Jesu.

My dear readers, no matter what or who you believe in, I hope you will always find comfort in your faith. I’ve come to understand that it’s okay to believe differently then others. We don’t all have to serve or worship in the same way.

“We become not a melting pot but a beautiful mosaic. Different people, different yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.”-Jimmy Carter.

For me, I just want to bring a smile to your face, comfort to your soul and hope for a better tomorrow.

I’ve enjoyed talking with you all today. Enjoy your weekend and until next time, don’t forget, Love Life++ Hugs.

More from my book:

“I was fifteen years old when I became a baptized Jehovah’s Witness. When you are baptized, you are entering into a lifelong contract with this religion. You are now identified as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and you are held to an even higher standard than a non baptized JW. In order to become baptized, you have to meet certain requirements. You have to be approved for baptism by the elders within the congregation. Three elders will meet with you on three separate occasions. They will review with you the “The organized to do God’s Will” book. The book is over 200 pages and basically what it does is review your understanding of the basic doctrines of the religion while the elders determine if you are truly convinced this is the truth. The book is only available to those who wish to get baptized. It is not a book for just anyone. At least that was the case when I was becoming a full pledged slave to the organization. Once you review the book in its entirety with three selected elders, they meet and decide if you are approved to be a baptized Jehovah’s Witness. If you are approved, you will be baptized at the next assembly (a large gathering of Jehovah’s Witnesses from other congregations, including your own).”

  1. Are the sleds on the quilt top printed or pieced, Dawna? This is a fun quilt, and I’m sure it will be beautiful when you are finished. I’m glad your air quality is improving. Have a fabulous weekend, dear Dawna.

    1. Good Saturday morning to you Mary. The sleds are laser cut then sewed down. the entire quilt top in fact is laser cut. It’s a sort of cheat to applique’, makes it easier for those of us who are challenged to sit and sew tiny stitches by hand.
Enjoy your weekend my dear friend.

      1. Do you have to zig zag stitch around the pieces? I have made many quilts through the years but not one like that. I used to do everything by hand, but my hands hurt so much now that I work with the machine.
