Focus

Happy Tuesday,

How are all you wonderful readers doing today? I hope well. Staying cool? Hopefully you are able to be indoors during this extreme heat and if not, hopefully you are in the pool or water of some sorts. Keep those fluids going. Which reminds me, I need to go grab a big glass of water for myself. I’ll be right back.

Okay, I’m back with 32 ounces of water with a splash of fresh lemon. I hear lemon is supposed to be really good for us.

What are the advantages of drinking lemon water? According to MedicalNewsToday, an article they published in 2019 said, “antioxidants and flavonoids in citrus fruits can improve heart health and metabolic health markers, including glucose tolerance, insulin sensitivity and fat metabolism. Vitamin C is also important for immune system function, wound healing and it helps the body absorb iron from foods.” Fun fact for today.

Now onto the blog:

Today I wanted to talk about focusing and what it means to me. I saw this quote the other day and I saved it to share with you.

“Life is like a camera, focus on the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t work out, take another shot.”

Isn’t this a great reminder? Heck, this should be a reminder that even when something doesn’t work out, we need to take another shot at it. Maybe from a different perspective or angle.

It’s easy to fall into the negative patterns and get stuck there. Sometimes it feels as if we get so buried in all the bad things going on around us. We are living in a very turmoil times. We are seeing an upcoming election like never before. We see the world around us changing and not entirely for the better, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find the positive in our own lives.

For me, I need to work on staying positive on the things that bring me joy and make me happy. Writing is the one thing that brings me complete peace of mind. Taking a golf cart ride with John helps too. Lunch with friends always leaves me feeling calm. My boys make me happy, even when they just stop over to say hi.

Yesterday I was talking with my therapist and she was helping me focus on the things I can change about myself. She was helping me see that it’s important to set boundaries for my own mental health and she reminded me to breathe. 1.2.3.4.5 Hold it! Hold it! Release 1.2.3.4.5.

Sometimes in my new life I struggle with staying focused on the things I have control over. Instead, I tend to focus on things I can’t control. I’m the type of person that always had my home clean, spotless clean and now, not so much. I used to always have my bed made, now, not every day. I used to have time to get up in the morning, take my walk, come home and have my coffee and work on an art project for an hour, but that too has changed.

Dr. Gomez is helping me to see that my safe space is within arms length. That’s where my boundaries are, within my space. “When you can’t control what’s happening, challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what’s happening. That’s where your real power is.”-BrightVibes.

I’m learning every day that it’s a challenge for me to let go of certain things, so now, I have to change the way I react to them. I need to redirect my thoughts and focus on the good things and work to not allow the things that bring me so much stress to affect me the way they have been. I need to develop from the negatives, meaning, I need to develop my thoughts to not sit in the negative and refocus on the positive.

Life changes so rapidly. One thing I do need to do more of is get outside, but, here’s me looking at the negative, “IT’S HOT OUTSIDE.”

The positive, “I HAVE A POOL.” I can go out and enjoy the sun, my neighbors and swim and cool down. I can cool my thoughts and I can focus on the blessing of having a beautiful condo to live in, a condo that God provided for us.

“We must let go of the life we have planned so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.”-Joseph Campbell.

I know what’s been waiting for me, now, I just need to adjust my thoughts and run, not walk towards it.

Guys, I’m on the countdown to submitting my book to Hay House. I have less then a week, and I allow certain things to take my time and lately, my time is so limited. I am focusing on what I need to do to button things up on my book. I am blocking out the entire day on Friday and Saturday to write. I will write from 7 am to 4 pm on Friday and I will begin writing again at 8 am Saturday and working until I am finished. That’s my goal. That’s my focus and that’s exactly what I’ll be doing.

I love the idea of looking at life as though I’m looking through a camera. I will focus on the good times and I will develop my own personal growth through the negatives that I am facing. If things don’t work, I’ll simply start over, no matter what that looks like.

When we focus on our goals and dreams, we make them a reality. “Always remember, your focus determines your reality.”-George Lucas.

My reality, I need to focus more on pursing my writing and less on the other stuff. My goals are important and they may just be my dream for now, but it’s up to me to change my dream and goals into my reality.

Today I reached out to Mel Robbins. Praying she replies. If she does, then I’ll share with you what I wrote to her, but for now, I’ll just say, she’s a woman I admire. I respect the work she does. I admire her determination and I appreciate how honest she’s been about her life and what it took for her to go from near bankruptcy with leans on her home to having over 6 figures in her bank account.

I’m sure the money is enjoyed by her, but she also, in my opinion truly enjoys the work she does to help others. I picture her as a very generous person. No, I don’t necessarily mean money. I believe she is generous with her time and her motives in what and how she teaches and she is someone I aspire to be like.

I am taking her advice in her 5 second rule book. When I get up tomorrow, no more snooze button. I’ll be jumping up out of bed, writing down three must accomplishments for my day. Then I’ll walk the dogs and get my day underway.

Life is busy, more busy then I like, but I know that will change soon. In the mean time, I will be focusing on my dreams and turning them into my reality.

This is how I plan to focus.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you focus in life and what do you focus on? Shoot me a text or drop me a comment, I love hearing from you.

Well guys, I need to take the pups for their final walk and then, hit the sack. Morning comes early.

Sleep well my dear readers and don’t forget, until next time, Love Life++ Hugs.

  1. Great advice all around, thanks for sharing!! I suppose โ€œLife is like a camera, focus on the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things donโ€™t work out, take another shotโ€ means you are always working in red light places.
